Your coding agent edits your videos

Say “cut this recording into a reel” or “make a launch video for this app” to your coding agent. LaunchReel gives it the tools: it cuts your footage or writes the film, and a local Studio opens where you watch it build, drag the timeline, edit text on the frame and pin comments your agent fixes.

Install

LaunchReel is a plugin and MCP server. Pick your agent:

1/plugin marketplace add gajanansr/launchreel-plugin
2/plugin install launchreel@launchreel

Paste and run one at a time.

Before the first video

  • It needs Node 20 or newer.
  • The first render downloads a headless Chrome once; later renders reuse it.
  • Without a key it runs on Free: as many videos as you like, exported with a small badge.

Add a key

Your key is in your purchase email and on your account page. Add the server with it:

›claude mcp add launchreel -e LAUNCHREEL_KEY=YOUR_KEY -- npx -y launchreel-mcp

Or paste the key in the Studio: Plan → Save key.

Use

Open your agent in the repo of the app the video is about (or next to your recording) and say what you want:

> make a 35-second launch video for this app with launchreel, with narration
> edit my recording take.mov into a reel with launchreel
> watch my comments
> render it

The Studio opens at localhost:4747 while it builds. More to say in Prompts.

The Studio

  • The timeline: drag a clip's edge to retime it (it snaps to spoken words and to the beat), drag to reorder. ⌘Z undoes.
  • The inspector edits whatever is selected: every word on screen, a clip, a sound, a cue.
  • Comments: press C, click the frame, type. Say “watch my comments” once and your agent picks up each new one, fixes it and replies in the thread.
  • Edit on the frame: double-click any text in the player.
  • Export at 1080p on every plan; 2K and 4K on Pro and up.

What your agent does

With a recording of you

  • Transcribes your footage, keeps your best takes and cuts the fillers, pauses and retakes.
  • Adds captions and zooms, and drops in visuals where they help what you say.

With a repo

  • Reads the repo and inspects the running product, then plans one story sentence, one small brand element carried across every cut, and a storyboard on a 0.5 s pulse. The craft rules come from a shot-by-shot study of 59 real launch films.
  • Writes each scene as a Remotion component with our motion kit: camera moves, parallax depth, light, texture, morph carriers, settling type, hits and risers.
  • Looks at the motion, not just stills: flipbook strips per scene, a contact sheet of the film, and measured checks for dead frames, metronome motion and cuts without a carrier.
  • Records narration in LaunchReel's voices and cuts the scenes on the words (with an access code).

Prompts

Your repo is the brief, so one sentence is enough to start. Everything below is optional direction. Copy a line and paste it into your agent.

Start a video

Run your agent in your app's repo. It reads the code, looks at the running app, plans the film and writes every scene. The Studio opens while it builds.

>make a launch video for this app with launchreel

The whole brief. Your agent picks the story, the length and the look from your product.

>make a 30-second launch video for this app with launchreel, with narration

Set the length and ask for a voiceover. The scenes are cut on the spoken words.

>make a 15-second video about the new export menu with launchreel

One feature, one short film. Name the feature the way it's named in your code or UI.

>the app runs at http://localhost:3000, look at it before you plan

Point your agent at the running product, so it rebuilds the real screens instead of guessing from code.

Give it direction

Say how it should feel and who it's for. Your agent still designs every frame for your product.

>calm and premium: slow camera, lots of space, no glitch effects
>make it feel like a late-night CRT infomercial
>it's for developers on X: lead with the pain, show the terminal, keep text short
>less text, more UI. Show the product doing the work
>use the feel of https://example.com (type, colour, pacing) but keep our brand

Your agent opens the site in a browser and reads its fonts, colours and layout. It takes the feel, never the logo or copy.

Formats

Landscape for X, LinkedIn and your site; portrait for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Every scene is re-laid out for portrait, not just cropped.

>make the 9:16 version for reels
>make a 15-second 9:16 cut: the hook, the main moment, the end card

Edit your talking-head video

Record yourself (phone or webcam, up to 60 minutes with whisper.cpp installed, 10 without it). Your agent cuts the ums, pauses and retakes from the transcript and illustrates what you say. Your video stays on your machine, and so does the audio when whisper.cpp is installed (brew install whisper-cpp); otherwise only the audio is sent to be transcribed.

>edit my recording take.mov into a reel with launchreel

It transcribes the recording, keeps your best takes, and adds captions, punch-ins and visuals for what you say.

>keep it under 60 seconds and open on the strongest line
>illustrate the dates with a timeline and the places with a map
>less cutting — keep my pauses, it sounds too rushed

Sound

Every film can get an original score written to its cut, and a voiceover.

>score it: warm and building, big hit on the reveal

Original music composed to your scene lengths, with the hit on the beat you want.

>add a voiceover, friendly and fast, one line per scene
>no voice, music only. Let the on-screen words carry it

Fix it with comments

In the Studio, press C, click the exact spot on the frame and type. Say this once and your agent picks up each comment, fixes it and replies in the thread:

>watch my comments

Your agent waits for your comments and answers them one by one. Interrupt it (Esc in Claude Code or Codex) to talk to it directly.

Comments that work well

Pin these on the frame, on the element you mean. Short and specific beats long and vague.

>make this land harder
>hold the end card a second longer
>cut on the beat here
>this moves at the same time as the title. Stagger them
>too much text. Keep only the first line
>use our real button here, not a generic one

Finish

Small changes (a word, a colour, a font, a clip's length) you can make yourself in the Studio, without a prompt. When it's right:

>render it

Or press Export in the Studio. 1080p on every plan.

>render it in 4K

2K and 4K are on the Pro plan and up.

>make another video for the pricing page; keep this one

Each video keeps its own scenes, comments and renders. Switch between them in the Studio header.

Three things that make a better video

  1. Let it see the app running. A URL (live or localhost) gets you your real screens rebuilt as motion.
  2. Give it true facts. Numbers on screen must come from something you told it or from your repo. It won't invent “10x faster”.
  3. One idea per video. A 15-second film about one feature beats a 60-second tour of everything.

Pricing

Free makes as many videos as you like, with no key: 1080p, with a small LaunchReel badge, and a few AI voices, music scores and transcription minutes a month. Pro is $12 a month, $30 a quarter or $96 a year: no badge, 2K and 4K export, plenty of voices, music and transcription, on 3 computers.
